"The well being, health status, independence and sense of security of frail older Australians over the next 20 years can be significantly enhanced through the smart use of technologies. Such technologies can help frail older people to remain living in their own home longer and reduce their reliance on formal community care services. A well developed assistive technology strategy for frail older Australian has the potential to reduce demand on hospital, residential and community care services. However, the extent of such a reduction is not quantifiable at this stage. This paper provides a brief overview of the key issues and offers policy directions for addressing this area."--Introduction (p. 1)
