This chapter examines the psychological impact of a number of outcomes of coronary heart disease (CHD), particularly focusing on myocardial infarction (MI), and how psychologically based interventions may benefit patients who experience these conditions. Each of these health problems may require a variety of medical interventions, and people who develop them may attend a variety of different rehabilitation programmes. However, all these programmes have two main goals: ● changing risk behaviours, such as smoking and low levels of exercise; ● helping people adjust emotionally to their illness and any treatment they may have. |
